When the relationship between building and surroundings is such that the building can be seen as an object, it has a responsibility not to offend its surroundings. Tasked with a project situated amongst the rugged and breathtaking terrain of the Karakoram mountain range in picturesque Gilgit; we endeavoured for an authentic, honest kind of creativity. Monolithic and bold, we opted for objects with an imposing expression of material and form. Both exhilarating and raw, with rough textures emphasising heavy materials, this project became an amalgamation of a celebration of local culture and materiality coupled with soft textural wall treatments.
