Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context – a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan. — Eliel Saarinen.
Tucked into its existing surroundings, the Rain-Chain Treehouse takes advantage of its aloofness and sees the home coexist harmoniously with the landscape; its modest yet robust form ensures the insertion feels like a natural extension. Strategically, the slightness of the home is made to feel larger through minimally framed glazing.
The established tonality and muted nature of the exterior is brought inside to complete the cohesive approach with polished concrete floors that stretch the length of the ground floor, drawing light deep into the plan. The efficient use of interior space welcomes a conversation around what is needed within a home and poses questions about the benefits of occupying less.
